Michael Russell, MSP for Argyll and Bute, has welcomed the Scottish Government’s announcement that more support will be available for farmers and crofters filling in the Single Application Form (SAF) during the final weekend of the application window.
Area offices will be providing additional telephone support for farmers and crofters between 10am and 3pm next Saturday and Sunday (13th and 14th June), as well as normal working hours between now and the SAF application deadline on Monday 15th June. The announcement comes after the Scottish Parliament’s Rural Affairs Committee recommended more telephone support for farmers in the remaining application period.
With less than one week to go until the deadline, farmers and crofters are being urged not to leave it until the last minute to submit their SAF or to register for Rural Payments and Services – which is required to receive Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) payments. As of Tuesday 9th June, 14,726 forms have been submitted: around two thirds of the total number expected.
Mr Russell, who is a member of the Scottish Parliament’s Rural Affairs, Climate Change and Environment Committee, commented:
“I am glad that the Scottish Government has listened to the Rural Affairs Committee and added to the help that farmers and crofters can get in the next week, as the deadline approaches. The RPID area offices in Oban and Tiree will be able to receive telephone enquiries from 10am – 3pm on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th June, in addition to normal opening hours this week.
“I urge every farmer and crofter in Argyll & Bute to make use of that help to the full so that the application process can be completed on time, and in a way that ensures there will be no delays in payment later in the year. The new system of allocating CAP payments is more complex than in previous years, which is why the original deadline for submission of the SAF was extended to 15th June, and so it is vital that farmers do not delay in submitting the SAF or registering to use Rural Payments and Services.
“Making certain that farmers and crofters are paid on time is a key objective for the Government and I will continue to press that issue as well.”
